Program Details

As part of the Advancing Green Building in Higher Education Program, Second Nature awarded 15 technical assistance grants of up to $2000 each to provide building professionals that work with under-resourced higher education institutions with green building training opportunities.

Any school that has received Title III/V designation by the Department of Education was invited to apply. Grants were used to train an external contractor (e.g. construction contractors, architects, designers, engineers) or an internal staff member who works on campus green building initiatives.

Note:

The GB101 Technical Assistance grant was a one-time opportunity not limited to senior-level staff members and focused specifically on providing basic training. It was open to external contractors and/or internal staff members who work on campus green building projects at various levels (bricks and mortar-level projects, planning projects, managing projects, etc.).

The Kresge Fellowships were geared toward senior staff at colleges and universities (facilities directors, campus planners, and vice presidents of finance and business are eligible) and focused on building inspired leadership for green building. Once in the fellowship program, the fellows entered a network of peers that would continue to grow over time. We provided networking opportunities – such as in-person meetings, conference calls, and social networking platforms – to our fellows, as well as conference attendance.
